Distributed JamKazam Servers (Host) to improve performance
Posted by: kaminskied@comcast.net - 06-21-2020, 01:43 AM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (18)

Because of the routing behavior of the internet latency can be highly propredictable between the same locations.  In fact it is possible for a connection between Europe and the US to have fewer hops than a connection between two locations 100 miles apart.  Sessions on JamKazam likely connect to a jamKazam hub and that point on the network is where each user is connecting.

Perhaps Jamkazam as a company would consider licensing the JamKazam server as a product, a product that could be installed at locations closer to the users in session.  This distributed server licensed to a collection of users (for a fee) could improve performance because it would be dedicated to that user group with lower latency connections.

Has anyone proposed this concept... a concept that is typical in large global corporation networks.

Wondering

  How to correct red latency?
Posted by: Netdawg - 06-21-2020, 12:00 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (2)

I just started with Jamkazam.  My buddy has a very old Alesis eight channel audio interface.  We were able to play together, but on his stats, latency was red.  We went to Manage - Audio - Audio Booster and tried to lower the latency, but it resulted in static in his headset.  Do you think the audio interface is the issue?  Is that the place to start?  Typically is the internet speed the problem?  He has a standard cable internet connection and is wired in to his router.

Thanks for the help.

  What's the best audio interface?
Posted by: Netdawg - 06-20-2020, 11:56 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (2)

I just started using Jamkazam.  I have to say that what is happening here is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.  How on earth is it free.  I will be donating, because this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

I'm trying to bring my group of musicians over to JK.  Needless to say they are old school.  Audio interfaces are not their thing.  Singing and playing they rock at.  I'm going to try to handle the technical side for them and buy them an Audio Interface. In most cases it will be a single instrument (guitar, bass) or a single singer.  Since I'll be flipping the bill for the hardware, what's the cheapest one or two input interface that works well with Jamkazam.  I see a lot of forum posts about problems with specific focusrite hardware.  What would you buy if you wanted it to work and save money?

Thanks!!

Jam Tracks - how can more be added
Posted by: carvinae185@gmail.com - 06-20-2020, 09:55 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - No Replies

I have the list of about 3,700 jam tracks.  Can more be added?   Who has to do that?

  Solo and Mute
Posted by: Squid - 06-20-2020, 09:23 PM - Forum: New Feature Requests - Replies (7)

I have two requests:
1.Please can you provide a Solo option (this will make it easier to focus on the chords someone is playing, and make it easier to identify the source of strange noises).
2. Please make it harder to mute people (often when I attempt to change the volume of a particular player I end up muting them).
Thanks

Using Blue Yeti USB mic in Windows 10
Posted by: Oboist - 06-20-2020, 08:57 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (7)

I am working with a small group of classical musician friends who all have somewhat different setups.  All but one are in Mac IOS (3 have iMacs, one has MacBook Pro).  Our clarinetist is on a Windows 10 machine.  As the "leader" of this $ndig, I have all of these systems and have been working on the playbook for my folks to get set up.

I have had good success in getting the Mac IOS machines up and running using both Digital Audio Interface (Focusrite Scarlet Solo and 2i2) and the Blue Yeti USB mic.  Latency is acceptable and I have had sessions with a couple of these people that worked OK (some issues, but that will be for later).

I am running into a problem using he Blue Yeti with Windows 10.  Latency is stubbornly at 20mbs.  Can't seem to get any of the normal adjustments to make any differences.  Has anybody run into this and solved it?

Thanks!

Mike

Question Audio Profiles Actions
Posted by: AndreasGiraud - 06-20-2020, 02:28 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (2)

Hi folks,

Actually I try to setup my JK environment... I need some help in understanding of audio profiles in JK... My three audio profiles are:
1) In: Focusrite Scarlett 4i4/ Out: Audio integr.
2) Jam Chat
3) System Default (Playback Only)

JK allows for each audio profile to set actions (activate, configure, delete). As the last two actions are clear to me, I wonder how activate works. I only activate one profile at a time.

Am I right to assume, that I should per default my audio profile 1)? Or is it recommended to activate the default profile 3)?

Would be great if someone could help. Appreciate it!
Thks, Andy

  Linux Application
Posted by: emma - 06-20-2020, 02:25 PM - Forum: New Feature Requests - Replies (47)

I would really like to try Jamkazam but my PC uses Linux.  I haven't found another service that looks as though it would work for more than 1 musician.  I haven't found a
Jamkazam app for Linux although there seems to be a reserved space for it in the downloads section.  If the app is written in Java I can help with coding.  I would imagine the Mac version would be a good basis for development.

Would I be correct to think the app is designed as a Peer-to-peer mesh network node, with call set up via the central server?

Regards

Emma

  Won't install
Posted by: Patch24 - 06-20-2020, 03:49 AM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (4)

I downloaded the latest 1.0.3744 msi file and tried to install. I get 'preparing to install' for ever. I've tried disabling all virus protection etc. To no avail. Tried restarting my computer. Made sure to confirm my email. Nope. Never really seen this before installing anything else. I'm on Windows 10 Home 1903 OS build: 18362.900
