Does this work from Boston to Texas? |

My band is interested in using JamKazam, but before we make the attempt to set it all up - has anyone had success jamming across the country? I'm in Boston and trying to play with my bandmate in Texas. Or will there be too much latency regardless of how strong our network connections are?
The Youtube videos show people practicing with low latency - but it notes that they are all located in the same state..
Thanks in Advance!

Auto throttle settings could make jitter worse? |

- Probably not related but I wonder what auto throttle on the Audio Booster page is doing to the flow of data out into the internet. Could it affect jitter ( also known as buffer bloat)? It's interesting that setting auto throttle on the network packet size grays out the individual choices but auto throttle on the bit rate doesn't gray out the individual bit rate choices.... I'm getting good latency now on the 1 millisecond experimental frame rate choice but when I used that a few weeks ago it Interfered with playing back jam tracks or my own audio files.... Other musicians in the session we're hearing Interference but they didn't hear that at 2.5

Error Message to Reboot Router or Optimize Network |

I'm using a hardwired ethernet connected Mac, OS 10.14, with a Steinberg UR22, and when joining a session with another musician who invited me, we both receive an error message that streaming audio may not be reaching others and to try to reboot the router or optimize my network. Is there a legitimate reason for this and what is the solution? Do I really need to reboot the router? How do I optimize my network?
When joined into a session, my signal is greyed out.
Any help is appreciated.

Best audio interface? |

Is there a best audio interface for Jamkazam? I have a Focurite 2-outlet one that I just bought but I am having latency issues with some users despite getting my own numbers in the green range consistently. I wonder if I would do better with a different product.

port forwarding and optimizing |

I am new to the concept of port forwarding.
I grasp the concept of port forwarding as a set of ports dedicated to Jam Kazam and configuring these within my router, there are a few videos on youtube on how to do this.
My question is does port forwarding improve the overall latency and response? Does port forwarding cut any millseconds off travel time, and also --does it reduce any jitter?
Right now I am not using port forwarding -- I'll try anything to cut more milliseconds off.
I am in the city of Denver. Hopefully we can unlock the local latency key for our local players. Any advice at all to optimize travel / network time is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Evan Sitchler

WHEN WILL WE SEE THE NEW AUDIO RELAY SERVICE IN DENVER |

GREETINGS JAM KAZAM-
I am slowly building a community of very talented people in Denver Colorado who use Jam Kazam. We are refining and optimizing our set ups and are getting very very close to having true real time experiences on a more consistent basis.
At this stage we are all in town and getting to the 25ms mark on average. Some users hit below 20-17ms, Its ever so close! But playing with a remote drummer continues to be challenging. we all hit the yellow indicator mostly with flickering green...
The bottom line is that we know we are so very close geographically and we need that extra push to get our local connections optimized and as fast as possible. i have three questions if you have time...
1) is the new audio relay system close to deployment?
2) Can a group of Denver musicians help test ?
3) how much more latency reduction might we get with the new deployment if we are hitting 20-25ms?
thank you for your time

USB or 1/8" connector? |

Which is better, a USB connection or coming out of the line out (from your source) with an 1/8" plug for your connection to the interface? Is the USB faster?

Jamkazam with pfSense router |

If you're using JamKazam behind a pfSense router, you might receive this notification when JamKazam starts on Windows:
Quote:Warning Check your network! Your network changes packets port-numbers. This may block receiving real-time UDP packet traffic from the Internet. Enabl
Or, you might receive a dialog box from JamKazam while joining a JamKazam session that says this:
Quote:JamKazam client network connection test is reporting that your network configuration may not allow you to participate in sessions remotely with others. The reported network configuration is:
'Independent Mapping, Independent Filter, random port, no hairpin'
<snip>
and then perhaps another dialog:
Quote:TRANSMITTING PROBLEM: Some JamKazam session peers are not receiving audio packets from you.
Restarting your router and the computer sometimes helps to address this problem.
Also perform the Network Test to verify your network is configured properly.
< snip>
after clicking "OK" on these dialogs you may see the "live tracks" of peers are grayed out. This is all bad news for your jamming!
Here's one workaround for pfSense:
- Navigate to Firewall > NAT on the Outbound tab
- Select Hybrid Outbound NAT
- Click Save
- Click Add with the up arrow to add a rule to the top of the list
- Set Interface to WAN
- Set the Protocol to UDP
- Set the Source to Network and add the NAT network IP address of LAN (192.168.1.0/24 in may cases)
- Leave the Source Port box empty, which indicates any
- Set the Destination to Any
- Leave the Destination Port box empty
- Leave the Translation Address set to Interface Address
- Check Static Port to indicate that traffic matching this rule will retain the original source port
- Click Save
- Click Apply Changes
Restart JamKazam. Rejoin your session.
Note, this change is necessary to allow JamKazam to perform NAT Traversal. It also somewhat reduces the security and enterprise-level functionality of your pfSense router. If this is a concern, it is easy enough to toggle the Output NAT rule, or change the Output NAT Mode back to Automatic when not using JamKazam.
For more details about disabling source port randomization in pfSense, see the manual here: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/late...port.html# .
Alternatively using port forwarding (*) or using UPnP might suit your pfSense network better. I've used UPnP with some (**) success. I believe with either alternative, you will still receive the first notification above which may be ignored.
(*) Don't forget to set "Manage->Networking->Configure Port Preferences->Always use the same set of UDP ports" in JamKazam if opting to use manual port forwarding.
(**) By "some" success, UPnP seems to work about half the time. For the other half, restarting JamKazam and rejoining the session seems to do the trick.

Macbook Air headphones have no sound |

Wondering how to select the output? We've tried looking at the JK Audio Gear to no avail. We tried looking at the Mac preferences, which do show the headphones for output. The other person (using different equipment, Win 10 with Scarlett 2i2) in the session can hear everything.
We both see green bars indicating sound being input to our mics.
Are there any Mac setup tutorials?
What should we do if a user is unable to hear themselves or others in a session?
UPDATE: Switched from the Blue Yeti mic to the default audio build into the Mac, and was finally able to hear through the headphones. The big problem was the sound quality was terrible from the built-in mic, and the latency delay was a problem.
Thanks.
