Solution Idea - No Audio from others ( LONG READ )
Posted by: Moncee - 04-15-2020, 11:24 AM - Forum: Help with Live Jamming Sessions - No Replies

Hi Jammers.
I've been troubleshooting for a week now, but I have found a solution for one specific scenario, that causes you not to hear others in a JK session. I have seen some of you are not able to jam, despite you have set up everything right (Port forwarding, Firewall...etc) so I share this... might worth a look.

Symptoms:
- JK installed, Gear properly set up, Latency fine, ready to jam
- Port forwarding or UPnP is set on your Internet facing router, and Firewall is set correctly ( JK is allowed to pass through )
- When Joining a session, you do not hear others, and they are "greyed out", occasionally you hear only 1 person, but that is very random
Possible Solution:
- Check your Router. What is your IP address that you are getting from your ISP ( Internet Service Provider)
- Now check what the "internet" sees about your IP address. Go to a page that displays your IP address.
( just google "port checker", or go to https://portchecker.co/ or https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/)

[See attached Picture] - Cannot attach Picture, so just believe me... the router shows different IP, than the Portchecker site.

If the 2 IP addresses are different then THAT IS an issue.

Okay then what now?

[TL : DR] Call your ISP call-center, and ask for a Public IP address.

Technical mumbo-jumbo:
It might happen that you are behind a CG-NAT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAThttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT)
Simplified, that means, that your router is behind another router, but that is in control of your ISP.
So whatever you set on your router (portforward, firewall... Etc) will not be enough, as the ISP's router (that does another Network Address Translation ) will block JK traffic, as ports will not be "forwarded".
Why does my ISP do this to me...???

Most people does not need a public IP address, as they do not use services that require one. You are not publi$ng any services as a generic user, but in our case JamKazam needs to access certain ports ( UDP 12000-> ) to be in "listening" mode, therefore we need a "real internet facing, public IP" ( it does not have to be a Fixed IP, only a publicIP )

The ISP saves public IP addresses by putting the many users behind one public IP using CG-NAT, some might not even notice it.

So call your ISP, and ask if (and how) can you acquire a public IP .

If they grant it to you, you'll need to reboot your router (to get the new IP ), then check again if your ISP provided IP and the one the "internet sees" is the same.
If they are then you are good to go, if you set JK and your OWN router right, you should be able to Jam properly with others.
That was my story, since yesterday, I am a happy jammer as well...

Jamblaster not working in April 2020
Posted by: Att Rah - 04-15-2020, 03:52 AM - Forum: JamBlaster - Replies (14)

Hello dear team at JamKazam,

I have a Jamblaster from kickstart project and used in past. Even last year I have used - and worked. Last week during Easter Break I have tried to use the Jamblaster then I did not get the option Jamblaster Settings under user profile. I referred back to my guide - and made sure - I have iTune, on the same Cable Network and all other things. Still no luck. JamKazam works with my other devices (ASIO) but I wanted to use Jamblaster for a different reason and unable to do so.

Please see attached guide.
Also the original URL (https://jamkazam.desk.com/customer/en/po...jamblaster) doesn't exist and throwing this error https://support.desk.com/404

Instruction "When the JamKazam app is installed, if you are using a Mac computer, you are ready to move on to the next step. Windows computer users will need to go to the download page for the iTunes application, and download and install iTunes for Windows. You won't need to run and use this application, but iTunes includes a code library that is needed for our app to find and connect to the JamBlaster across your home network. We are planning to do the work needed to eliminate this iTunes app requirement, but have not completed this work yet. We apologize for this inconvenience.

At this point, you are ready to move forward to the next step in the help topic Pairing Your Computer with Your JamBlaster."

Still my Jamblaster is not working in April 2020

  Focusrite 4i4
Posted by: JackRyanSullivan - 04-15-2020, 02:03 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I have successfully been jamming using a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 and a Scarlett Solo.

I recommended the 4i4 to a dear friend of mine across the country. I set his up the same way as mine, I did so over a remote control of his computer to ease things, but after hours of trying everything, I can not get his audio into JamKazam.

His interface works as we did a small recording with it, his gain is up high enough to almost max out, and I followed the setup procedures about 100 different times.

He can hear audio from sessions fine, but he can not get a signal to pass through to JamKazam... We're even using identical MacBook Pros.

Please help. I feel awful because I recommended him to buy this stuff.

Thank you in advance!!!

Jack

Presonus AR12 USB - Any Ideas?
Posted by: Jock Mirow - 04-15-2020, 12:34 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (3)

I'm trying to use a Presonus AR12 USB Mixer work with JamKazam. I've got everything down to 44.1 Khz - but JamKazam keeps reporting issues and telling me this isn't set up correctly. I've been doing audio interface work for quite some time and have used this same system for many multitrack recording sessions. Hopefully I'm missing something simple!

Any help appreciated,
J.Mirow
