With the latest upgrade:

Good: The crackling in my own mix (previously reported) had gone (no changes in my hardware or settings from previous session so I conclude that is to do with the upgrade)

Bad: My personal mix volume was very high even though the slider was at zero. (to repeat, all the settings at the start were exactly as they had been from the previous session). 

I couldn't turn my jamming partner up to hear them without risking damage to my hearing therefore please treat this as a matter of urgency since hearing damage is a health and safety issue.

Prior to jamming with my friend from Portugal here in Boston, MA, we both downloaded the new software update from Jam Kazam today. However, we both experienced problems that we never have had previously. It kept freezing on us, even after rebooting the software and the computers. Also for my friend, it stated I was on Jamkazam in a session when I really was off it rebooting my system. Could an admin/tech person please rectify the update, considering we both are paid, monthly subscribers? Anyone else having the same problems as us? Thank you.

Every time I set up a session, I have to supply the same info, check the same boxes, over and over.  It would be nice to be able to set certain defaults for the quick and the future sessions.

If so, what is the best way to go about it? I have tons of great gear and years of live gigging experience and I'm reasonably Windows conversant, but I'm new to JamKazam, except for a few sessions with one person. Also, how do I confirm criteria such as time, day, material, instrumentation, etc? Am I correct in that all I have to do is start an open session? Should I complete my profile (and if so how) so that others know what to expect? Is there some way I can contact others to get together via JamKazam? I am not paying any monies at the moment, but I would be fine doing so if I am playing regularly with others of a similar or better level than yours truly.

At least in our group, we’ve used a rhythm track either created by or recorded by one of the group members to sync the group and create song cues. The JK metronome is pretty much a train wreck: 1: because its timing is different for each member (listen to the “Play cluster test” metronome option to see how bad it really is, mostly due to individual latencies) and 2: because the JK metronome can’t deal with time signatures, so there is no “1” emphasized in the metronome, which makes it pretty worthless with the usual JK connection glitches. JK can play a pre-recorded rhythm track, either recorded as a WAV file (preferably 48k/24bit) or an OGG file. BIG WARNING: Once you start to play a rhythm track during a recording, you can not stop and restart the track without terminating the recording. JK will not warn you of this or even stop the recording timer, but trust me here the recording ended when you stopped the rhythm track. This has been true for as long as I’ve used JK (since February 2020). If JK blows up on someone in the session, most likely the recording will terminate when they fell out of the session. But not always.

Your recordings are all stored in a folder and they will take up a lot of drive space over time. On a Windows machine, they are stored under Music/Jamkazam/Recordings and the recording folder names are cryptic, no matter what name you give the recording; “b7edbf3a-a7c6-43f1-85cb-d996e6b6bbb8” for example.  JK does a terrible job of “managing” old recording files and if you screw up this procedure you’re stuck with the old non-existent recording data in JK’s File Manager indefinitely. Delete all recordings in JK’s File Manager first. If you use your OS’s file manager to delete those old folders, you’re stuck with ‘em. As best those session recording naming requirements are a waste of time, unless you “Export” the recording. I just create a shortcut to JK’s storage location on my Desktop, to simplify finding recordings and messing with the files.

Levels are a sketching thing in JK, at least recording-wise. Generally, you can assume if your signal is clipping at the “audio inputs” it will likely be distorted during the recording. However, even if you are not clipping the “audio inputs” the recording will sometimes still be distorted (clipped).

Likewise, the “personal mix” levels are often weird. For example, the person who loads up a rhythm track will control the volume for everyone and sometime last year JK decided that the volume control on the audio track will be practically untouchable in its sensitivity. If someone other than the person who loaded the track messes with that volume, it will likely deafen everyone else (except the person who loaded the track). You can, sometimes, individually control your “personal mix” volume of the rhythm track with the volume control of the person who loaded the track. And, sometimes, that will screw up everyone else’s mix, too.

The recorded audio isn’t great, but it is usable. It is stored as a compressed OGG file and you’ll need an editor to convert that to a WAV/AIFF file for most DAWs.

BTW, before I get into this, the Help Desk page appears to be broken. It reports "Captcha verification failed, try again!". I tried half a dozen times on two computers with no luck.

I am a Platinum subscriber and have used Jamkazam successfully for over a year but now am unable to get it to run. Over the last 3 weeks I've tried to run Jamkazam on 3 computers, all of which run the latest version of Windows 10. The symptoms are always the same. The program either crashes within a minute or so of starting, or it freezes and I have to shut it down with the Task Manager. I have tried three hardware configurations: 1) An audio interface which is a mixer (Yamaha MG10XU). I used this mixer successfully for months before this problem occurred; 2) Headphones and an external condenser mic; 3) Headphones and the built in computer mic. 

My main computer is an HP Envy laptop with Intel® Core™ i7-6560U CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz and 16Gb ram. I have a 2Tb SSD as my main drive. My wife's computer is also and i7. It runs at 280GHz and also has 16Gb ram. It has a 2Tb hard drive. The 3rd is an older HP Pavilion with an i5 processor at 1.7GHz and 8Gb ram and a hard drive.

I've noticed three JK message banners which began to appear about 2 updates ago (two to three weeks ago): One indicates that the Connection Server setup is 1.43% complete(?), the 2nd indicates that the connection server is migrating, and the 3rd indicates that the Connection server is setup. I have attached a MS Word file with screen shots of the first two messages.

I have two sources of internet. The faster source is via a cable modem and I get speeds of about 250-400 Mbps download and at least 18 Mbps upload. There is no hardware between the cable modem and the computer (I have a hub and a router, but I took them both out of service to eliminate them as possible culprits), just the Cat 5 cable. JK crashes or freezes regularly and quickly when using this service. The other source of internet is via DSL on the copper phone line and it is slow at about 2 Mbps download and less than 1 Mbps upload. Jamkazam didn't crash or freeze with this source, but it was too slow with intermittent sound to be useful. 

I am aware that the common element when experiencing crashes with all three computers was the cable modem, however Spectrum ran remote tests on that modem and it passed.

Any ideas?

Alright so I am like 10 years behind everyone els when it comes to using a computer and guitar. I struggle. 
Anyway here is where I am at. 

I own Bias FX Elite, my computer is a Dell optiplex 790 with windows 10 at 64bit quadcore proc. with 16 gigs of ram, plenty of hard drive space.
my usb interface is an M-Audio M-track solo. 

My account for Jamkazam is platinum. 

Why is it so difficult to set up my guitar and host a session? So far if I play clean or start the 32bit bias fx 2 vst in jamkazam with clean amp settings
then it seems to work fine, green dots all the way down due to the many different attempts I made to setup my gear and play in jamkazam.

The second I turn on a high gain or distorted preset, my output chops like theres a constant static mute button being pressed every 2 seconds almost like a robot. My samples match in my windows input and output. How come I can't play distortion with my vst? I am guessing if I buy one of the hardware boxes designed by the Jamkazam team, my problems will magically disappear? Lol...

How 'bout a compromise? Just the last two sessions or 48 hour access to sessions. Any thing that allows you to know who was in the room post session.

My old MOTU Microbook II works rather well with Jamkazam. 
Microbook II has 5.6 ms input/out ("roundtrip") latency according to Jamkazam's Audio Configuration Report (press option-$ft-R on Mac):

Excellent: Less than 5 ms
Average: 5 - 9 ms
Poor: Greater than 9 ms


After the latest MacOS update, the Microbook needs to be replaced. And now I need "excellent" latency for my session.

Quest: a new portable sound card for $200-300, with less than 5 ms roundtrip latency.

I tried Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen, but I got around 12 ms, "poor".
Same thing with Steinberg UR22 MkII, around 12 ms.

Does anyone have info on roundtrip latency for different sound cards?
This info is oddly hard to find. 
Everyone talks about their "zero latency monitoring", which is something else altogether.

I've heard good things about Presonus, the Studio 24c and 26c for example.

Hi All,

Just got a friend up and running on JK. They are in San Fransisco area. I'm in Boston MA area. In a session with friend in SF, and another friend in NY city area, SF internet latency was 70ms, and with NY internet latency was 10ms. 

SF friend was on free account so we encouraged them to go to paid plan to get the mesh network. They left the session, paid for gold plan, restarted JK, joined the session and their internet latency was still 70ms. 

At one point i had seen the name of the backbone low latency network service that JK is using, but i can't find the name again. I know at the time i had found it that the service had entry points in NY city and SF. Does anyone know the name of the service?

Also, does anyone know what could be happening that the mesh network on the gold plan didn't do anything to reduce the internet latency for my friend in SF 3,000 miles away?
