Music what are the critical parameter adjustments
Posted by: Ehallman - 07-11-2020, 09:50 PM - Forum: Help with Mac Client Problems - Replies (1)

I was trying to methodically change settings to optimize my latency and jitter but the variability muddies everything.  Can someone tell me what variables are the most critical for reducing latency and jitter.  I'm on a Mac so looking at the Audio Booster settings, I assume Frame Size is most important but after that which of the following should be tweaked next:
   Outgoing Audio Bitrate
   Network Packet Rate
Should the Auto Throttles be on?
Is there a trade off on optimizing latency versus jitter?

Thanks,

Cannot connect a Focusrite to MacBook Pro
Posted by: LVanarsdall - 07-11-2020, 01:51 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (5)

Hello. I am having trouble connecting a Focusrite Scarlett interface, both 2i2 and 4i4 to JamKazam on a 2 year old MacBook Pro. The interfaces work because I was able to have them work on her husband's older Mac. I had the teacher re-install the Focusrite software. I had her change all of her cables. Every time I try do add a Focusrite device, it will see the device, have a presentable latency during the test, but fails the second part of the test and I cannot proceed with the installation. I have tried adjusting every setting that page offers, but nothing I do allows me to proceed. I can setup the internal microphone and use a headset, but I cannot get the device to work. I have done a number of installations with faculty, but this is the first one I can't make work. What am I missing?

  Could encryption cause lag?
Posted by: Southpaw - 07-10-2020, 04:06 PM - Forum: Help with Live Jamming Sessions - Replies (4)

One of my musical friends has JamKazam on a work laptop that uses encryption.  Her system has an annoying lag time that we can't get rid of.  Could encryption be causing it?

My levels are low for other players on Focusrite Clarett 8Pre USB, Windows
Posted by: flacoflaco - 07-10-2020, 04:09 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (8)

Hello,

I’ve been on JamKazam weekly for several years now - excellent product!  I recently upgraded my PC and audio interface to a new HP with a fast processor and a Focusrite Claret 8Pre USB.  At first I had issues getting the latency below 20ms using the Focusrite ASIO drivers, but changing the frame rate to 2ms has solved that problem.  I continue to have problems with low volume being output to other players however (same guys I’ve been playing with for some time now).  All of my levels sound low to them.  I’ve got the preamps on the new interface cranked up to just below clipping and I’ve tried experimenting with various things.  I’m using all 8 channels on the interface, btw for acoustic drums.  In other programs, the audio interface sounds great, but in JamKazam the levels are low.

Also recording doesn’t seem to be working properly.  I’ve noticed when I record, I only hear something if I have the monitoring levels up!  I’ve never seen this before, and thought this was controlled in the master mix widget.  Cranking up the monitors makes it so I can record, but normally I don’t want the drums in the headphones (already plenty of that at ambient level).  I’ve tried playing with the audio boost, master mix, and audio controller without much luck.  Everything seems connected (I can hear all mics independently) but it’s too quiet.  I’m running Windows 10 with all updates, latest JamKazam and latest Focusrite drivers.  Please help!

Thanks,
Flaco

Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 3rd gen - LATENCY FIX
Posted by: raindog tom - 07-09-2020, 02:32 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (6)

I contacted Focusrite support regarding the latency issues when using my Scarlet 2i2 3rd generation audio interface on JamKazam.

I received the following:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Please download the most up to date Focusrite Control 3.6 software which includes the latest driver and can be found @ https://customer.focusrite.com/en/support/downloads

When working with ASIO drivers, JamKazam only deals with buffer sizes that directly correspond to the JamKazam "Frame Size" which is measured in milliseconds. It is attempting to match the buffer size that is not traditionally used in ASIO drivers which is in multiples of 16 samples.

We have raised this with their (JamKazam) development team and are currently in talks with them.

In the meantime please try the steps below to further reduce latency.

 • Click "Manage" in the top left corner of the application screen

 • Audio Settings > Audio Booster

 • Reduce the "Frame Size" down to either 1ms or 2ms

This will in turn reduce the buffer size in the F Notifier Settings panel."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I applied this fix to my setup (Scarlet 2i2 3gen) and it reduced the latency on the "Audio Interface" (your interface device) status from 11.54 down to 4.5.

Since then all status lights are GREEN in the Audio Interface section.  (Trust me, when all members of a jam have all GREEN lights on their audio interface, it's MUCH better.)

This fix may work on  other Focusrite Scarlet series as well (and who know what else).

Note that this will not change status in the "Internet" section as those are based on your unique subscription with your internet provider and other factors outside of your control.

And according to other posts i've seen, you should have at least 3mbps UPSTREAM bandwidth to achieve a happy experience.

FAST.COM will tell you what your bandwidth is on your unique connection.  There are many other speedtest programs out there as well.

Hope this helps.

Let us know your results so comment below if you try this.

Also, if you're using a different audio interface than above, let us know as it may help others.

And most importantly, DO NOT LET COMPUTERS RUIN YOUR LIFE. Spend the time practicing instead and let the makers fix the problems they sell us Wink

scarlett gen 3 solo ouput sound issue
Posted by: pspotok@comcast.net - 07-09-2020, 02:18 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (4)

Hi. I have a brand new Scarlett solo gen 3 running Windows 10. I loaded the latest software FocusRite has on their website.

If i set the instrument input gain so the gain halo doesn't go into yellow (guitar knob at half volume) - there is no audible output in the headphones. If i turn the guitar volume up the gain halo immediately goes yellow, starts clipping and the sound is horribly distorted. If i then back the Scarlett gain down, it goes from horrible distorted sound to no audible sound. If i increase the volume on the JamKazam track - same thing. Either horrible, distorted, clipped sound or no sound. Very frustrating. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, i can get clean sound listening to YouTube through the interface so i know the headphone output and headphones work. And i've tried different sample rates, buffer sizes etc. None of that had any effect. Thanks.

Cannot keep change in AudioBoxiTwo sample block size when using Jamkazam
Posted by: mcdon056@umn.edu - 07-08-2020, 11:00 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (2)

I have an AudioBoxiTwo. The sample block size is set to 16. I increased it to 64 to deal with some audio distortion, but when I start a Jamkazam session, it resets to 16. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

  Vocal track plugin not working
Posted by: nutleysh - 07-08-2020, 08:32 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Effects Plugins - Replies (2)

Probably an old problem, but I'm new to Jamkazam, so apologies in advance if so. I cannot get a reverb plugin to work on my vocal track. I'm using a Macbook Pro and have downloaded several different plugins. They appear in the list of plugins (along with two Apple reverb plugins), but none add any reverb to the track. I've gone into settings and tried to make adjustments but this doesn't help. Thanks!

Slapback issues with Focusrite Scarlett 4i4
Posted by: VoxDrum1 - 07-07-2020, 09:53 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - No Replies

While trying to take part in a session I had my Focusrite 4i4 Gen3 configured as I have in past sessions (which worked fine) but this time I was having major
slapback on my input sounds ( mic, etc.) and I tried reconfiguring input hardware setups and changed settings in Focusrite Control app as well as
re-doing the audio track settings in JamKazam.   I continued to have varying degrees of the same problem.

In this session setting the following factors were present:
Focusrite input to iMac,  the other participants in session were in Texas and Colorado and I am in California.
We have had sessions before with latency problems but never had I experienced the slapback/loopback/feedback problem.
I have only experienced this while in JamKazam; does not occur otherwise (while using Abelton, etc.)

If anyone has a solution I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks,
Scotti - VoxDrum

Wink Apparently network issue; Live Tracks always greyed out in Session with others
Posted by: backinterrapin - 07-07-2020, 09:21 PM - Forum: Help with Network Gear - Replies (12)

Dear JamKazam et al,

Still trying to jam with someone.

Short story:

 1. I can do a solo session. 7.3ms delay. All good. Using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen.
 2. My friend can do a solo session. 7.4ms delay. All good. We are “Friends”. He is using a USB mic.
 3. When we try to join a session together, all we see is the other greyed out with “No audio?”.
 4. And we get the “Network Send Error.” Over and over.
 5. And we both tried to join an open session and get the same results for the other “Live Tracks” — greyed out. This points to it being our setup.
 6. And i now after turning back on "Show Network Alerts" on Manage->Network menu, i get the "Check your network! Your network changed packet port numbers. This may block...".
Long story:
 1. Both macOS Mojave 10.14.6.
 2. Both Jamkazam version Build 1.80 - “1.0.3702”
 3. Both have a Network “Location” that is set to use a static IP, with WiFi removed from the location.
 4. Both have setup port forwarding of external UDP ports 12000-12010 to same range internal sending to our respective static IPs.
 5. Both have IPv6 turned off in Jamkazam.
 6. Both have JK’s Preferences set ON to always use the same set of UDP ports, and the start is set to 12000.
 7. Both have Audio Booster set as follows: Auto Throttle Bitrate unchecked, Media Stream unchecked, Chat channel unchecked, Maximum Outgoing Music Bitrate set to 128Kbit/s, Audio FrameSize set to 1ms Experimental, Auto Throttle Network Packet Rate unchecked, Max Network Packet Rate 100Pkt/s. This got me down to 7.3ms delay from 10.3ms.
 8. Then I realized i had macOS Firewall turned on and so went and set Security & Privacy->Firewall is OFF. Still no changes, except when i went to Search for Open Sessions, when i hovered over one of the people in an open session, it showed my delay as 10ms to that one person — rest all say unknown. Still no love trying to join an open session.
 9. I have a Verizon FiOS business internet 90Mbps/90Mbps. I didn’t have my friend test his network speed. Friend has Comcast 131Mbps down/6.5Mbps up. Should be no issues with those speeds.
 10. I have Apple Airport Extreme router with a static IP from Verizon as i run some services. If i go to whatismyip.com i see the same IP as what i have set my router’s to. This is in regard to some post about having a private IP versus a public IP as some crazy internet providers put you behind some NAT. Friend has DHCP IP for his router but same as what shows up at whatismyip.com.
 11. In tweaking settings over and over, i would quit and restart Jamkazam many times. At one point, Jamkazam app crashed. I have filed a bug report.
 12. Oh yeah, in one test with my friend, we heard each other for like 1 second... then it stopped. Retried that setting a few times. No luck.

What am i missing? Or what have i done wrong? Or what should i try?

Any clues would be most appreciated. I've attached some screen shots in cast that helps.

Peace,
Dan
