Line 6 Amplifi TT as AI?
Posted by: Guitarded Guy - 11-22-2020, 11:10 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (1)

Has anyone been able to properly configure a Line 6 Amplifi TT as AI for guitar? My latency and drivers have been flagged as very problematic.
I know it is an older device and the drivers are proprietary, but it is a cool device to use. It works as it should outside the JK environment and I can hear myself in a private session, but cannot hear jamtracks or join an open session.
Any help is appreciated! Confused
TIA

JamKazam is not receiving audio coming into the laptop audio interface or an external
Posted by: brianmolstad - 11-22-2020, 04:26 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (4)

Hello,

I am able to hear other musicians in a session, but they cannot hear me.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

JamKazam is not receiving audio coming into the laptop audio interface or an external USB interface.

MacBook Pro Retina 2015
MacOS:  Mojave 10.14.6

PreSonus AudioBox USB 96
also have tried the built-in audio adapter of the laptop

Neither work with JamKazam.

Macbook is connected via an ethernet cable directly to a Spectrum cable modem and has received a public ip address via dhcp from Spectrum.

There is no hardware firewall being used.

The MacBook’s wi-fi is disabled.

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility: JamKazam is checked.
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall:  Disabled

JamKazam recognizes the AudioBox and allows it to be the active audio gear.  In a session, it is selected as input and output but no audio seems to be uploaded/transmitted to JamKazaam, i.e. the VU’s show no level.

In System Preferences > Sound: the Presonus is the active device and is showing audio level.

In JamKazam app preferences, tried both checking and unchecking “Always use the same set of UDP ports”.

Problems still Wed 11/18 and Thu 11/19
Posted by: SammerJammer - 11-21-2020, 07:22 PM - Forum: Help with Live Jamming Sessions - Replies (2)

Both sessions occurred after Wednesday's update.

Still numerous problems joining, players showing up as "gray" with no audio, players' sound dropping out, some players suddenly not able to hear some other players, people needing to leave and rejoin session or restart JK client or even reboot computer after JK client crash. Two players reported the update itself crashed.

In other words, the (unfortunate) usual litany of problems on JK.

In both sessions we all eventually ended up deselecting all the new Network Route options leaving only Prefer Peer-to-peer. This seemed to have made things more stable though not perfect but we had better success than using the new release with its default configuration.

Not sure what JK is trying to do exactly but the platform has been very hit-or-miss (and mostly miss) for well over a month now.

Question for JK: Can you detect all those audio dropouts? Do you have a way to analyze your logs to see all the players leaving and rejoining sessions and re-starting the JK client? In other words, are you actually aware of the scope of the problems and when they are occurring?

  Starlink Update
Posted by: blandis - 11-20-2020, 07:19 PM - Forum: Help with Network Gear - Replies (1)

Hi folks,
Just a quick update, as I am now seeing people posting their initial experiences with StarLink, SpaceX's satellite-based Internet service.  This large (but eventually huge) constellation of "Low Earth Orbiting" (LEO) satellites is providing a beta service now, and in a YouTube video a subscriber posted his Internet SpeedTest results:
https://youtu.be/h0Itx_TUOKA
In the video the subscriber, who lives in a rural part in North America with limited Internet options, achieved decent download and upload speeds (compared to his terrestrial Internet provider), but it is important to note the ping delay, which was 38ms, resulting from the transmit time of his radio signal up to the connected satellite several hundred miles up (they operate at different altitudes, but most are 550 km (340 mi) up), the laser "crosslink" communication path to most likely to many satellites, and then the downlink to the Starlink ground station, where the signal then enters terrestrial Internet comm lines to the destination of the ping test, and all the way back to complete the round-trip latency of the ping test.  This value, which to me is surprisingly good for a satellite link, would not yield a good JamKazam experience, as the total JK latency would be this plus each players' local latency, probably yielding total's in the mid-to high 40's or higher.  Furthermore, as the service rolls out and there is more user traffic, the Starlink latency may actually get worse, due to traffic congestion processing in the system.
Hope this helps,

  Electronic Drums Settings.
Posted by: Fennaric - 11-20-2020, 06:01 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (4)

Hello Jammers, I hope all your sessions are going well. The one I was in last night was full of crackles, momentary mutes and time lapses that didn't make for a great experience.

Does anyone have experience of setting up electronic drums with Jamkazam. If so could you advise please on any optimum settings you have found in manage/audio settings and should the interface be set to line or instrument. I have an old Alesis DM8 connected via left line out to a Behringer UMC 202HD then laptop. The other Behringer input I use for a microphone for chat between songs.

An instruction video I saw said that guitar and bass should be set to instrument and all other electronic devices such as keyboard set to line? Not sure if this includes edrums.

Your advice much appreciated.

  Recording separate tracks
Posted by: jeffrey.e.farley@gmail.com - 11-19-2020, 10:19 PM - Forum: New Feature Requests - Replies (10)

Is there a possibility of enabling JK to record two discrete incoming tracks from other musicians rather than a pre-mixed mono signal? This would provide much more ability in the remixing process. As it is now if the original mix isn't right it can't be altered later.

Problems with Behringer X1204 - Device not found
Posted by: Gerald - 11-19-2020, 09:45 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (3)

I have some problems getting startet with my Berhinger X1204 Mixer (which is listed as good working).
The mixer is connected via USB to my PC(Win 10) and works properly with different audio software. So I expected, Jamkazam would recognize it without any problem.
But: Selectinh the "Auto Device configuration" it shows only the choice between Behringer UMC204 or UMC204HD, which I don´t have, and Jamkazam asks for the driver. I installed the driver, but then Jamkazam shows that it can´t find the device. No wonder, because I have a X1204. Confused
In the sound options menu I changed Jamkazam from "standard" to my Behringer X1204, but without success. What can I do? Would be really happy to get it working.

Thanks for your help!
Gerald

  USB to Ethernet Adapters
Posted by: ribick - 11-19-2020, 04:55 PM - Forum: Help with Live Jamming Sessions - Replies (3)

Hi All:

First time poster here.  I did try to search the forum first, but my lack of skills here may have found me at a loss in finding the answer to this question despite its presence here.  I'm sorry if that is the case.

Given the way JamKazam is designed with respect to attempts at eliminating as much latency as possible, I completely understand the recommended use of a wired cable connections to the internet versus WiFi when using JamKazam.

The problem for me is that PC laptop manufacturers, in their effort to make designs thinner, seem to be doing away with providing an ethernet (i.e. RJ45) port standard.

Accordingly, I was wondering if anyone could speak to their ability to use, for example, USB adapters that provide an RJ45 female plug and the potential for latency that such, I've read, slower hard wired connections provide.

It's my understanding that even USB 3.0 ports not only don't compare to ethernet speeds, but that there is more that needs to go on within the machine to translate signals using USB than with an ethernet port, on top of what I've read about how USB ports within a PC compete with each other for a processor's "attention"  ...certainly a relevant concern given that we run JamKazam microphones through USB ports as well.

Any guidance/success stories--other techniques that people have used to deal with this issue would be greatly appreciated, and what type of USB port (e.g. USB, USB 2, USB 3) was involved.  This BTW is not a Mac based question where things like Thunderbolt ports come into play.

Thanks.
Smile

Any microwave broadband versus fibre issues?
Posted by: mheeley.gm@gmail.com - 11-19-2020, 02:04 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (8)

The problems we're getting with my 3-person local (within 10km) sessions seem to be more intense since 2 weeks ago - we would never complain about the level of lag (latency) or jitter (sound quality errors) until then.
Looking at the performance dashboards with this lower general performance, it seems clear that my broadband leg (which arrives via microwave to my chimney) is causing bad results on my sending legs to the two others and on the receiving legs from them both. This may have been the relative qualities of links previously but the effect on the session was able to be ignored previously.

Anyone out there have a similar problem apparently caused by microwave broadband, or know any theoretical reason for problems, or anyone else who gets this? All three of us have great kit and broadband downlink and uplink speeds, and always use wired connections direct from the router RJ45 connector.
