  JamTrack Selection Screen
Posted by: drumdudesm - 03-01-2021, 11:36 PM - Forum: New Feature Requests - No Replies

My biggest aggravation is trying to select one of my many JamTracks from the current user interface. I use a laptop connected to a 43" LG TV and it is very hard to get the cursor right on Page 2 or the Next Page > option to get to the next page. I would rather see a scrollable, single window to see all of my JamTracks. Or just make the font for the numbers and <> a little bigger?

Anyone else frustrated by this? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

What key is a track in?
Posted by: freewheeling - 03-01-2021, 05:50 PM - Forum: Help with JamTracks - Replies (1)

I am new to Jamkazam and so I think I might be asking a really stupid or obvious question.   I want to know what key the track is in but I can not see that information.  The app has the option to change the pitch by semitone but it doesn't say what the starting pitch/key it's in.   I want to sync the track with the music notion that I have.

What am I missing?

  Location of Volume controls
Posted by: marilynfleming - 02-28-2021, 02:54 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (1)

I'm puzzled by the multiplicity of volume controls.

There's the one under AUDIO INPUTS. Presumably that's my mic gain control and I set it so, when I play it's at the top of the green, maybe slightly in the red, and any more I'm clipping. And, once I get it set, I never change it on pain of death.

Then there's the one under PERSONAL MIX where I adjust the relative levels of the various participants that I hear in my headphones. Everybody has there own settings. If John Doe says I'm not loud enough, I ask him to adjust my level in his personal mix. I do not adjust my own volume in audio inputs.

Now there's the gray VOLUME button at the top of the screen. Is that a global volume for my headphones? So I use personal mix to adjust relative volumes of participants and global volume to adjust the overall level? Help for this button says "to adjust the master level for all musicians ... use the mixer button in the toolbar". There isn't a mixer button in the toolbar any more, though I think there used to be one.

There is Manage/Audio Settings/Pro Audio mixer. Maybe that's what used to be mixer button in the toolbar? I could do with some explanation of what these controls do - particularly whether they affect the master mix or the personal mix. If John Doe says I'm not loud enough, and he has my volume maxed in personal mix, and has his overall volume maxed,  is there something he can do so I don't have to increase my gain?

Vancouver BC and area Jamkazam musicians?
Posted by: hollywoodcrash - 02-27-2021, 08:37 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (4)

Hello,
To get better latency, I'm looking for musicians around Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've noticed that since Jamkazam is using a subscription model, that the latency issues of last year have improved a lot. So, I would think within 200 miles might work, so Seattle to Whistler to Victoria to Hope? This is all personal prefernce of course, so if you're in East Van that'd be best, and play bass, keys or vocals. I play drums well, electric guitar ok, and prefer indie, alternative, college rock. No metal or jazz.
Let me know, user name hollywoodcrash on Jamkazam.
thanks,

  M1 BigSur 11.2 - Session constantly crashes
Posted by: FraSa - 02-24-2021, 08:59 PM - Forum: Help with Mac Client Problems - Replies (1)

? Anyone else experienced this:

JK running on a M1 MacMini using an RME Babyface and a generic Chinese HD USB Webcam (brandname JIGA at Amazon)

I managed to create a session and could communicate wit a fried fr some time, this was interrupted by JK crashes several times, but I could re-enter the session after a restart of JK. then I joined a session and JK worked for about 5 Minutes, then suddenly crashed (disappeared completely). After restarting JK and re-renering this session JK crashed after maybe 10 seconds repeatedly for about 10 times, until I finally gave up.

When can we expect a native M1 version?

The software seemed a bit fragile during the whole setup process, so it feels a bit like not too good running this software. think I will instantly revoke my silver plan.

regards, Frank

JK won't load - since Fri Feb 19
Posted by: JiminSalmonArm - 02-23-2021, 04:39 AM - Forum: Help with Mac Client Problems - Replies (16)

Is anyone else having this problem?
I've been using JamKazam very successfully since March 2020 - always a few glitches, but every week getting better and better.
Worked fine Thursday Feb 18
Then Friday Feb 19 it would not load - repeatedly got error message  in a red box  "N/A",  the the error message "unable to load conversations"
All my Friends are missing
Will not allow a session to start - not even a private session.  error message "Unable to start a session"

I've deleted the JK program and reloaded - same issue
My log in and password work to get into JK,  but are rejected by

MacBook Pro (13inch mid 2012) OS 10.14.6   16GB RAM

A neighbour 50 miles away had issues but eventually got his to work
A second in my same town has the same issue, and still no go
We are all in British Columbia, Western Canada

The rest of our band in mid and east coast USA don't have any issues.

Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks for any suggestions
Jim

  A positive experience - so don't dispair

Yesterday, for the third week in a row, I had a successful band/rehearsal/session with the same group of people. Circumstances where thus, that we were able to play freely and at times even reach a tightness coming close to having actual 'pocket' (for the lack of a better word, I think most will understand)

Our situation; the group varies from 5 to 8 people & myself (I'm a stand-in, tech/coach) scattered over Netherlands. 80-140km apart.
Two peers with a MacBook Pro, the rest laptop/PC/W10. All with minimal tweaking. (but the obvious)
Focusrite, Behringer & Presonus external sound cards.
All with headphones and talkback / vocals via a sound card attached microphone - no speakers or onboard 'gear' involved.
All with a true public IPv4 address, no port forwarding (but myself) or tunneling.
One peer on fibre, the rest a mixture of cable (DOCSIS) & xDSL at multiple providers.
(All JKz gold accounts. All on 'Prefer P2P path')

Yesterdays 'pings' - comparable to prior occasions - as seen on my end (I'm the furthest away from all other peers)
'Best' = 11ms steady (to the person on fibre)
'Worst' = 22ms/fluctuating (to a person with a shared cable/DOCSIS) connection.
The rest sub 20ms.

This is, even for a drummer, a very enjoyable situation that holds up for an entire session with minor glitches.

Not looking to bloat, not trying to prove a point, not looking to start a 'yea nay', just reporting a positive sound  Tongue
It can be done. With a little perseverance and common sense.

D./

NB - "will it ever be the same?" (as 'live'?). Nope! But for these people, in strict medical quarantine, it is a very welcome positive break.

NB2 - We have actually been able to do this many times before, starting many months ago. But since there are reports of trouble with current installments, including "it used to work okay but it is not now" - I specifically wanted to report on our current situation.

Is a live session jam with video even possible?
Posted by: mportman - 02-21-2021, 06:05 PM - Forum: Help with Video Gear - Replies (7)

I'm on day 5 of setting up JK to work with my laptop (Windows 64 bit Intel i7) Presonus Audiobox 96 and Xfinity high speed ethernet connection. I am a pro-user/early adopter when it comes to tech such as this but after scouring the forums and YouTube videos I see that many recommend not using video if you really want to avoid latency problems.

So I want to ask whether JK is really just an audio-only jamming platform? Yes, I do see lots of examples of it being used with video but I also see many video latency issues being discussed in these forums and wonder if jams with video is even a real option and, if so, how.

I haven't yet tried it out, and as soon as a friend of mine who is also setting up JK is ready we will be doing some test sessions, but I'm here to ask if it is even worth trying. I'm starting to think not.

Thanks,
 - Mark

Recording myself playing along with JamTrack
Posted by: mportman - 02-21-2021, 05:47 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (2)

I want to record myself playing along with a JamTrack in a private session. If I open a JamTrack I do not see any option to record the session except for the Record tab at the top of the page. If I select that record option, it does not record the JamTrack only my input.

Am I missing something or is recording the JamTrack along with myself not an option?

If not, is there any workaround to play, and record, another backing track along with myself?

Thanks.
