JamKazam & Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Mixer with USB
Posted by: rhnelson - 10-27-2020, 01:05 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (1)

Everyone,
Just joined. Two buddies and I are trying to start jamming together using JamKazam. One of the guys has the above Behinger Q502USB and he cannot hear us but we can hear him. His headphones are in the mixer. From a Youtube video he has tried jumpering the tape out to the tape in and has tried all combinations of the two routing switches. The other player has a large multichannel Behringer USB mixer with no issues. I looked through one of the posting which list all the tested interfaces and the 502 is not listed. I'm hoping the list is old.

Any suggestions or leads?

Thanks,
Randy

  Latency in the UK?
Posted by: bassyerbouti - 10-26-2020, 09:07 PM - Forum: Help with Live Jamming Sessions - Replies (7)

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone in the UK is getting a good experience jamming with other UK musicians?

I discovered JamKazam about 6 months ago but found it impossible to jam with others in my band as the latency was getting in the way.

Two of us tried again tonight but latency is still an issue for us, we just can't lock onto the beat. I was wondering if we are just too far away from wherever the servers are located or if there are any tips for improving things please?

I believe we meet all the minimum system requirements. I have fibre connection and get 110mbps download and 4mbps upload. My guitarist has copper connection and gets 65mbps download and 16 mpbs upload. Both with Ethernet connection, both using PreSonus external sound cards. One guitar and one mic each.

Before we start doing anything the latency traffic lights are amber. Voice is crystal clear as we chat to each other before playing but once we both start playing things start to crackle and pop and before long we are out of sync with each others playing.

Thanks for any assistance or suggestions.

regards,

Chris (UK, London)

Jamkazam is moving onto Paid Subscriptions. Donors and volunteers' thoughts?
Posted by: Yoon Lee - 10-25-2020, 09:53 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - Replies (44)

Hi, everyone.

I just tried opening Jamkazam on my mobile device and found the updated jamkazam webpage showing planned monthly pricing for a number of subscription tiers.

https://jamkazam.com/remote-music-rehearsals/

Free versions would be limited to 4hrs/month, with each session being limited to 1hr/month, and three paid tiers being offered.

I understand that Jamkazam now has a sizable community of users and assume that there are cost involved in hosting servers, maintenance and development etc. So Jamkazam finding a sustainable way of growth is something I've been looking forward to, and I believe this wish is shared among many.

My question is rather, if the existing members had received any newsletters or announcement regarding this change, ESPECIALLY the volunteers and the donors who is helping Jamkazam reach their fundraising goal and more. (no-strings-attached, goodwill donations as far as what I can see)
Seeing the updated page on the plans and pricing without having received any announcement or newsletter, should come as a lack of transparency and consistency to the donors and volunteers, if not all users who are helping to improve Jamkazam by effectively beta testing it as they use it, and actively sending crash reports etc.
If I may point out as an example, the 'Most Popular' highlight on the middle tier paid subscription plan on their website - I assume this is a common marketing practice yet is a false statement, as nobody on Jamkazam so far could've been a paid subscriber as the plans are listed as 'coming soon' at the time of this posting. Therefore there cannot be any data on which plan is the most popular.

  • Fellow users, have you received any announcement or newsletter regarding the coming paid subscription plans?
  • And to the Jamkazam operators, would you share/comment on my concerns regarding the lack of communication on your planned change into a paid subscription service, especially for those who has been volunteers and donors?
  • And again, the community of people who make Jamkazam such a lively and noisy place - what are your thoughts?

Thanks and greetings to everyone,

- Yoon

Recording mentions session mixer which no longer exists
Posted by: carvinae185@gmail.com - 10-25-2020, 05:19 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - No Replies

Looking in the JK feed, recordings others have made all show "still uploading"  or "mix failed"   ( except for recordings several years old).   In making a recording myself, it says to use the session mixer which no longer exists.

Upgraded to Catalina, now it says my HW isn’t connected
Posted by: Lrizzo2001 - 10-24-2020, 09:39 PM - Forum: Help with Mac Client Problems - Replies (1)

So I just upgraded from Mojave to Catalina.  Now Jamkazam gives me errors that my hardware is not plugged in.   I can remove the device in Jamkazam, and go through the wizard and it sees the Presonus 1818VSL, but when I go to add it, it tells me it’s not connected.
I’ve searched all over the internet and cannot find anybody else having this problem.
The Presonus works fine in any other application and is a class compliant interface.

  Wifi or LAN

I am less than 10 ft from the modem (through a wall). The wall is a wood frame with drywall, so not much interference. I saw the appeal to use a hardwired connection, so I bought a really good ethernet cable, 30 ft long (since I have to go around two corners and it barely reaches). When I look at my performance on a network speedtest, I see essentially no difference. When I look at JK performance, I see NO difference. What am I missing??

  ASIO driver for USB mic
Posted by: ricmosley55@gmail.com - 10-24-2020, 12:00 PM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (1)

I cannot find or figure out how to get JK to use the ASIO driver for my Zoom H6. It seems to only see the WDM. I loaded the stereo and multitrack ASIO drivers, but not sure how to proceed.

Audio Gear set up, step 5
Posted by: hominah - 10-23-2020, 07:36 AM - Forum: Help with Audio Gear - Replies (4)

New to JK.

Windows 10, Focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, Vanguard V13 mic, fast ethernet connection, wifi off, all green tests and latency as described as it should be in the set up step by step article.

All going as described until....

....in the last step of the Audio Gear set up (step 5), when it says to completely turn off direct monitoring (which I have done), and then it says to hit the Play button and you'll hear a repeating ding:  the noise I hear is a fuzzy almost non-pitched noise, sort of a scratchy sci-fi sonar noise, not at all a ding. Does this matter? What should I check?

I haven't tried to use with anyone else yet, but am planning on trying it tomorrow morning for a lesson.

Would record the fuzzy scratching noise and attach it, but I don't fully understand all the in and out routing I'm looking at. If it's necessary for me to attach, I can figure out how to capture it and upload it to this thread first thing in the morning.

Any help or guidance appreciated. Above average computer literacy, novice to sound tech.

UPDATE:  Thought I'd try it one more time before posting this, and this time I got a message saying, "Unable to load test sound, please contact support", with a link that took me to a salesforce page (https://www.salesforce.com/solutions/sma...e/?mc=desk) -- what in the hell??

Can anyone advise?

Is there any difference between cat5 and cat6 cable when setting up for jamkazam?
Thanks

  How to see sessions
Posted by: RAV33 - 10-22-2020, 01:13 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous - No Replies

Hello everyone. I have a question. When we go to "find a session" and "open jams" can we see all the sessions open at that moment in the world or just a selection of them? In this case, how is the selection made by the system? Thank you.
