Audio interface recommendations?
#11
I'm using a Steinberg UR22C USB 3, its a good interface for both use with JamKazam and for recording live sessions with Cubase.

I can't get my UR22C to work with JamKazam.  Not quite true... it works on my side but gives nothing but echo to everyone else in the session, so I'm an unwelcome participant.

I'd be interested to get on a session with you to try to figure this thing out.

Thanks!
If you are only going to do vocal, all you need is a USB microphone with a headphone jack. I recommend FiFine K670 on Amazon for $60. It really is "plug and play". I am using a USB mike, myself, for playing flute in a group. You don't need an audio interface unless you want to plug in an electronic instrument, such as a guitar or keyboard, in addition to a microphone. -- Cyril Penn
Hi! Cyril, I followed your recommendations on “ACMP—Resource to Play OnLine” and setup my audio interface with FiFine K670, Sennheiser HD280PRO and Ethernet cable on my Laptop. I have high speed internet (1000Mbps). Everything went well, until I recorded my “Quick Start Solo” session on my violin playing. I heard nothing from the playback. Then, I downloaded the “recorded file” and played on my PC. The “Local Track” has no sound and the “StreamMix” has only noises. I spent many hours of tweaks without success. Could you help? [I live in Southern California, too far from East Coast.]    Thanks!   -- Wen-Ching Hsieh

I have only used Jamkazam and the same equipment to play with my group. Have not tried to record anything, so I have no idea what went wrong for you. Sorry!

There are many free audio recording programs which you could use just to record yourself, but again, I have no personal experience with this.

Well, I tested the record function (the tab at the top) while in the quick solo section. I got a clean recording of just my voice, after several tries increasing the microphone gain each time until it was satisfactory. I ended with a gain setting much higher than I use to jam. Lastly, Audacity (free) appears to be a popular audio recording program with the YouTube reviewers of microphones. One other thought: it may be essential to set up your input and output device selection to your FiFine mike in your system settings BEFORE you start Jamkazam. Hope any of this helps. -- Cyril

Thank you! I will take a try. By the way, separately from Jamkazam sessionI had recorded my playing using Audacity without problem (with FiFine K670).

Just an idea: have you turned your "Mix" knob all the way to DAW? This is a requirement.

Helpful, Cyril. I mostly will be playing fiddle acoustically, maybe some guitar also acoustically, so perhaps this solution would work for me. But how would I find an ASIO driver that would work with the FiFine K670 on JamKazam? Can you recommend one and tell me how I could obtain it? I've had difficulty finding (and/or activating) an ASIO driver that JamKazam seems to like. Thanks.

(05-21-2020, 01:33 AM)CyrilI\ve just discovered that all members of my ensemble are using a USB microphone with an iMac or Mac laptop. Works great on Jamkazam. However, the USB setup does not work well enough on the Windows 10 partition of my iMac. Accordingly, if you have a Windows PC, you WILL need an audio interface and a non-USB microphone. Sorry I did not test my USB mike on Windows before. Wrote:

I now realize that all members of my ensemble are using a USB mike on an iMac or Mac laptop. Works great on Jamkazam. So I tested my USB mike on the Windows 10 partition I installed on the iMac. Very poor results. I'm sorry to say that Windows PC users will need an audio interface and a non-usb mike to get a decent result. Most of the audio interfaces have an ASIO driver available on the manufacturer's website. I'm sorry that I wrongly assumed that a USB mike would work on Windows, just because the manufacturer said so. To repeat, I now believe that any DAW, including Jamkazam or Jamulus, on Windows will need an audio interface.
