Main limiting factor CPU ,memory or hard drive

My six-year-old laptop only has 4GB of memory so I'm considering upgrading that to 8 or 16 , or going to a solid state drive.... I don't think it would be worth trying to change the CPU in that but I really need to know beyond IO and latency where does the program stress a computer the most
Where to begin....a 6 year old laptop with only 4GB of memory? What OS is it running? I'd remove everything you don't need.... Via ADD/REMOVE programs. Be sure you have the laptop plugged into AC when using JK so the power plan will be optimized.
