One can open a audio file from the hard drive - and play along to it (as a backing track) and record it all. No problem with that.

But you are maybe refering to a "JamTracks"? I know nothing about JamTracks and recording and so ...

I have noticed that since the last update 1.0.3794 (28 June 2020), all the files in the session are now recording and saving - including the mix.  Not sure if it was a deliberate change - but something changed.
