3.5 mm mic for chat

I'd like to use the mic on my headphone cord for chat, using a splitter cable to run the mic into my interface input. Looks like I need something like this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1...aptor.html

Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

I would think you would have to somehow phisically split I/O from your headset cable since they have to occupy two different in-/out-puts on your interface. Unless your headset already has two plugs? After that there are several ways to convert from 3.5 to your interface input. They often are combi inputs, also accepting 6.3 jack.
