This may be obvious but just a reminder, once you plug your Ethernet directly in, make sure to turn WiFi off!

no, it isn't obvious !
but I think it happens anyway, I believe it is deactivated on the pc when ethernetworked, unless you mean throughout the house, no other laptop, tablet etc. connected ?
