I use an RME Fireface interface with TotalMix that allows audio outputs to be looped back into other audio inputs(without using a patch cable), just as if they were an audio source. I think MOTU and a few others have this feature - super handy.
Thanks and I see your point. I'll have to investigate the routing options from the DAW. I do not use the VSTs pulled into JK, and pretty much use hardware effects but it would be cool to see if can run DSP effects through the DAW setup with individual channels too.
And yes, MOTU is a zero latency interface with a GUI front end called CueMix (not a DAW). It allows for custom mixes and has onboard DSP effects for Verb, Dynamic: compression, limiter, and EQ. In my case I have 8 analog I/O, using pairs of 1-2 (l/r), 3-4, and 5-6. Translates into three tracks in JK.. and works nicely. I eliminated the need for a hardware mixer in front of the interface mixing down to channels 1 & 2. Less noise introduced in the chain too.
I think my next setup will be with my iPad in front of JK. I recently moved all my pedals to the iPad and like the sound I'm getting. I have a Melo Audio TS Mega MIDI controller as the I/O, which is also an interface.
