- reset router multiple times

Hello,

I am near Port Moody British Columbia Canada. I can never get any better than the yellow indicator on JamKazam, and that’s more or less OK when jamming with another guitarist / singer, but it’s simply not good enough to play with a drummer. Zlartibartfas says “manage your QoS settings, and setup port forwarding” but I do not know exactly how I should set this, see here https://forum.jamkazam.com/showthread.ph...6&pid=8125

I have been jamming with a local drummer (with good gear) and it’s always the same. It’s impossible over time for us to stay synchronized. It helps some if we use the JamKazam metronome, but even that is not good enough and I can feel his drums drifting over time. The drummer also can never get any better than the yellow indicator on JamKazam even though he’s upgraded ISP speeds, cable modems, routers, etc.

Also I have not adjusted the frame rate, we are both on the Gold Package, and we never enable video of any kind.

The tunes get most out of sync when I send the drummer a click with sequenced tracks (which I sing and play guitar to). I generate the click and the tracks from an entirely separate dedicated second laptop and mix it via the Behringer XENYX 1202FX Mixer referred to later on.

There are no other I/O tasks on our computers, there is no distortion or artifacts, and the session is not freezing or dropping out. We always make sure there is no other traffic on our home systems such as VoIP or other computers. I have looked at the status of open jam participants, and I noticed that a few of the participants have a green indicator, so clearly it can be done, and I am pretty sure that’s what we need to be able to get, or at the very least I should be able to get.

Please help us, we would be most appreciative!

On Tuesday April 14, JK froze with a reconnect to server error. The program would not completely load afterward. On Wed. there was an update. I could join sessions, but could not see friends and could not start sessions. I received an instruction from help desk to add a line the the client.ini file — didn’t help. The last two days I get frequent interruptions (3 times in a 1 1/2 session) where I freeze. I have to leave the session and comeback. These interruptions seem to be preceded by error messages that I’m assuming are BS for the following reasons.
There is a message about re-enabling video — I never use this feature and the built in camera is never on.
Then there is something about “an inappropriate sample rate (32000) with my audio gear” — I have never changed, altered or fuddled with this and it’s an actual physical switch on my Zoom L12.
This computer and interface have been working well for months.
Finally, I’m not finding “help desk” to be very helpful, primarily because their response times are more than 3 hours. The latest email, which was my response to a request by them, was sent almost 24 hours ago and there has been no response.

I’m upgrading my Internet service, and my two (same price) options are cable 300 which delivers 300 mbps upload and 100 download or fibre which delivers 300 and 300. Fibre sounds like a better deal but the company that delivers it here in Canada has terrible customer reviews. So I’m wondering how much difference the upload speed will make using jamkazam. I’m inputting to MOTU M4 off USB 2.0 on my iMac.
Any technical people who might answer that for me?
Cheers,

Hi,

I'm new to Jamkazam and experience latency problems due to internet connection when jamming with my band (6 players). The iinternet latency is high, with values above 50ms, ranging up to around 200 ms. My personal audio interface's latency is around 5 ms and input/output jitter is floating around 0 ms. My internet connection is rather slow, with around 3 MBps download and 1.5 MBps upload. I am using a LAN connection to my router.

However, if I am jamming with one friend of mine who has a high-speed fibre connection, my own slow connection does not seem to produce latencies. The audio stream is fine and we can play in sync.

Is it just the fibre connection which causes the different behaviour or am I missing something?

Best regards

I'm trying to understand the diagnostics JamKazam provides so that I can equate them to the bandwidth available for our sessions. The typical case is two players with wind instruments. One player has 25 Mbps download and 14 Mbps upload, while the other has 90 Mbps download and 18 Mbps upload speeds. This is far more than the 1 Mbps minimum that JamKazam published: https://forum.jamkazam.com/showthread.php?tid=114. (Really?) We have not analyzed the traffic from other users on these connections, but since our results have been consistent during different sessions, this doesn't appear to be the determining factor. We are both using current Windows 10 systems and Focusrite Scarlett USB adapters.

My question is about bandwidth, not latency, but I should note that we are having challenges with delay. We are about 100 miles apart, and one of the players is on an island. The challenges of providing service at that remote location seems to push the total latency above 50 ms.

Our results with this configuration are generally stable, although there are some artifacts (especially on high notes) that are of concern. When we examine the "Audio Bw Rx" status it usually says <other player> "has enough bandwidth to send you a degraded, but sufficient, audio stream." While I haven't found documentation about this specific message, the documentation (https://jamkazam.freshdesk.com/support/s...iagnostics) says this shows the size of the audio stream and that these will be automatically adjusted.

What exact parameters is JK looking for, and what does it means by "enough bandwidth" in this situation?

Hi everyone.

I'd be very grateful for some advice on how to find out where failed audio packets are failing to get through.

I've got a consistent problem whereby once we have more than 4 players in a session, I'm unable to hear any audio from Alan. In the newest release, the error notifications tell me I'm receiving probe packets but no audio packets from him. I'm guessing that something in my settings on my router or firewall blocks a route that jamkazam uses as things "fill up".

I use a Mac (macOS Big Sur 11.2) and an Airport Extreme Router attached to a Virgin Media hub in Modem mode.

I wondered could anyone advise on how to see where these packets are being blocked, or anywhere that shows how JamKazam tries to send these audio packets, so I can make sure all routes are open? Any advice on config to check on both of our jamkazam setups would be great too.

Thank you!

Hi there,
I am starting with Jamkazam in Germany. Until now I could not get the latency between two PC´s below 70ms. Each individual PC by itself looks o.k. (around 11ms).

Is that perhaps the delay to Jamkazam servers in the US? Is there a chance to get it to work in Europe?

Many thanks for your feedback!

Hello All,

After trying for the past 9 hours to get to the bottom of it why the server connection does not work , I unfortunately have to post this.

set up in brief:
Laptop 1 (high performance Win 10) installed with JK and all audio and video settings. >all ok with all tests passed - but no server connection - always retrying though with no success.

Win Firewall disabled - still no joy- no other Firewall present.
Looked also in router to set UDP port forwarding ( ie with 12000 - 12010) for this Laptop- did not work.
Tried set up in dynamic port release , could enter values of 12000 - 12010, but could not find Port Nr for "releasing" port.

JK is allowed through the Firewall in private and public networks on this Laptop.

To get a comparison I launched JK with another Laptop ( low performance ( old Thinkpad - Win10).
> Apart from messages that PC is not suitable (only 2 cores ), connection to Media Relay Server works slow but worked, even with no explicit port forwarding set up in router for this Laptop...

So that should prove that there should be no issue with the router....actually.?

JK is allowed through the Firewall in private and public networks onth this Laptop also.

Both Laptops are connected to the router via LAN connection.

Any ideas or what the problem might be and what to check for?

I really did not anticipate the high performance PC giving any problems....

Hi Folks und warm hugs from good ole Southwestern Germany...
Me and my 3 friends are not able to build a reasonable Jam session because the base player has
"cable TV - internet" and no other native ADSL options.
His latency is above 60-70ms because of the specific problem "queuing delay und Media Acquisition Delay".
Has anyone experiences in using a 5G internet connection with a special 5G Router for working with jamkazam ?
I heard, that the ping is less than 5ms. Is it stable ? and does it work proper?
It would be an investement of hundreds of EUROs and so it would be nice to know before signing a
2 year contract :-) Thanks for your help !

Hi

When you hover over a musician in the Open Jams list, it displays a dialogue box with the musician details. It looks as though it reports the latency to that musician: "Your latency to .... is ..." but when I hover over any musician the latency is always "UNKNOWN". Is this generally working or is it a problem with my setup?

Thank you
