We ran into a similar problem here, our bass player was generating a lot of distortion that the rest of us could hear but he wasn't hearing the distortion at all. We did find a way to stop the distortion by having the person that was generating all of the distortion by going to "Network Settings -> Packet Rate Configuration" and removing the check mark from "Chat Channel". Since he has done that we have not had any issues at all. I hope that helps you. :-)
