23rd June - new upgrade
#1
I received an email message about a new upgrade - and see a post identifying the changes in the forums.

The post message says that ALL USERS MUST UPGRADE

... but provides no instructions on how to do so.  I dont see a ‘upgrade’ option in any of the menus (as you do with other apps).  Do we manually uninstall and re-download? .... there are lots of musicians out here - not so many IT specialists

Thanks

Yes, it say - as point 1. "Incremented JamKazam P2P protocol version – the new app cannot communicate with the old version (all users must upgrade)".

And there is no instructions on how to do so, yes.

But you just start the program - and then you will be prompted to update. As usual - I think

What is by the way "zombie users"? Who knows?

It is point 6 I am refering to: "Fixed bug where zombie users are sometimes left in the session".

It sounds very funny, so to speak. And cryptically - not funny!
It should be possible to explain the matter without using cryptical wordings, I believe

Of course, I/we can use my/ours cryptic imagination
But I/we don't want that - I/we need a clear message

Ok - so I exited JamKazam, closed the app and exited from the background client. ... then restarted the laptop.

once back in - I open JamKazam - no new prompts, no checks.  I select manage > about and get the same dialog & version as before (1.0.3744 copyright 2014).  ... no upgrade has taken place.  .... so no auto-upgrade then. (Oh, and I can still join a solo Session - so not sure about the statement that we must ‘ALL upgrade’)....

The term ‘zombie’ is commonly used jargon to mean ‘a user (in a session) who has left - but the session still displays them’.  This sometimes happens when a user connection crashes or freezes (for example). .... I agree with you, the full description would be easier for everyone to understand

Thanks, Chris Frost

Sometimes a person joins a session - without showing up as a track (then of course clicking on "Resync" usually fix that).

What kind of zombie user is that, then!? lol

A "Join-zombie user" - and a "Leave-zombie user"!?

Yesterday in the Global Chat in the app several people were telling/asking about the same issue with lack of a update.

I have to admit that I couldn't take it really seriously at the time. But I do now!

So it seems to maybe be a common problem

I joined a session yesterday. After the update was send out - but before I updated the program.

All 6 or 7 was grayed out and labeled "no audio". I think it was because I was not updated at that time - "the new app cannot communicate with the old version"

Hi,

Same issue re the June 23rd upgrade: There is no prompt within the app to upgrade. Neither is there any link to an upgrade here in the Forum. And the version currently offered at the Download JamKazam link is 1.0.3744, the same one I've had for weeks. So... it's not actually out yet?

If JK sees this, please let us know when it's available. Thank you!

Chris, as Hans Peter says, and from my experience as Mac user, we are alerted to the new version when starting the App. There is no update option within the App itself. That said, if you are not receiving the update notification, do you have IP utility running that's blocking the notifications?

I received the original email notification .... but I dont think you mean that.

I get notification messages within JamKazam (RSVP responses, friend requests, recording available, etc) .... but nothing ‘regarding update’.  I am on the PC version.  I accept that updates are required ... what I (and others) would have liked here is info on ‘how to download / install it’.

There is nothing on the forum, nothing in the release note message on the forum, the website just takes you to the web interface.

I think that the ports are open (JamKazam works usually & I have made no changes). .... of course, there might be a port somewhere that I was not aware of / not advised to check.

UPDATE ..... I just opened my laptop this morning - JamKazam immediately reported with a very helpful screen saying that an update was required with a button to accept.

The update ran very smoothly - uninstalled the old version and installed version 1.0 3787 (windows). ... I will test this later (got to work now) ....this is what I was expecting to see after getting that email yesterday ....
