Mac OS Monterey JK freezes up and latency
#1
Hi,
I have a Roland TDK17 into a mixer that has audio inputs to my Motu M4.  Jamkazam seems to freeze on me from time to time.  In addition, my latency on JK is 11 but only 2.9 with Ableton.  Something is messed up in JK!  USBC connection to the mac from Motu.  How do I fix the latency and why is JK freezing up?  Thanks.

MacOs uses Core Audio as the driver for all audio interfaces. The default audio buffer size for Core Audio is relatively high rendering high device latency in spite of the inherent capability of the device (Motu for instance is a very fast device as you have noted). Most DAW software provides the ability to configure/ control this as you have seen with Ableton. Focusrite has even provided a MacOS patch to lower the buffer value to 32 cutting the JK latency in half for Scarlett devices.
I have just created a JK request to support the configuration of this value in their software. Please feel free to add your voice to this request.

Me too. Freshly installed Monterey on my Mac Studio M1 Max, MOTU M4 connected from Thunderbolt to USB_C. Thought this should be the best combination for a clean and high end connection. Had a session with terrible disturbances and red lights.  Sad
