What kind of backing track?
One can open a audio file from the hard drive - and play along to it (as a backing track) and record it all. No problem with that.
But you are maybe refering to a "JamTracks"? I know nothing about JamTracks and recording and so ...

Not sure if it was a deliberate change - but something changed.
