Avatar image handling is outsourced to a third party with a monthly quota which is much lower than current actual usage. The workaround is to try again at a different time of the month.
Just retrying, and somewhen it accidentially works, that's all?

Hello, I had the same Avatar issue.
Solution (Win10): Resize the desired Avatar picture to thumbnail size and save. Crop the resized picture to a Landscape shape (as per your liking) and save. The Landscape shape will prevent the picture from auto-rotate during the upload. Then it did the upload of the resized and cropped picture to JK. Once uploaded I cropped the picture to the JK displayable area. That was all I did. I tried with another picture the same way and that worked too. So I was able to solve the issue for me, I hope it works for you too!
